Tips & Thoughts
I have been hesitant to start children in lessons who are not yet in 1st grade. However, this summer I was introduced to the new "Music For Little Mozarts" series (Alfred publishing) which is designed for 4,5, & 6 year olds. I decided to try it out this year with my 5 year old son - he loves it and I love it. There is a lesson book, workbook, music discovery book, and a CD that corresponds to the books. You can also get a stuffed "Mozart Mouse" and "Beethoven Bear." The activities are not too hard for the young students but they will still need parents to read directions to them. Definitely worth checking into! - Sheryl

Back to School, Back to Music at PrivateLessons.com

With each passing year, school funding for the arts programs decreases despite proof through numerous studies that music lessons promote a higher level of consciousness for people at all ages and skill levels. In this increasingly difficult world, the escape provided by music study and the pleasure of playing are not only nourishing, but essential.
As public schools are forced to cut back their programs, the role of the community music teacher has greater importance to everyone as the private music lesson experience will probably not only supplement the school experience, but may eventually replace it in many geographic locations. For this and other reasons, PrivateLessons.com stands at the forefront of a new challenge-helping to provide the world with teachers equipped to handle an ever increasing curriculum as school systems are forced in many areas to drop the ball.
The musical experience is of prime importance to people at all ages. Some people just want to understand the music they hear on the radio better and to go out and perform it live. Others have held the dream of singing and playing their own songs and making a CD but never got around to it. Still others wish to understand the work of the great masters so that they will get more pleasure out of the listening experience. Whatever your personal musical needs are, you will be able to meet them through PrivateLessons.com's vast network of teachers and resources. It is truly a one of a kind website that I am happy to be a part of.
The Back To School time of year is always one full of fresh beginnings-and a continuing musical education will always improve the quality of life for those wanting to expand their horizons with artistic expression. One such way is to seek out the teachers in your area that may be able to help you with artistic needs as the school year rolls around and you can assess just what the quality level of your public or private school's music program is like. Whatever the case, a good private teacher is always able to help a student progress faster, motivate them towards their goals, and improve the quality of their life. Music playing and practice provide the relief from the media bombardment and constant challenges of our modern world, and art in the public and private sectors should not be ignored, but it should be embraced by anyone who understands the true value of it.
