Radu Pieptea
Since making his solo debut at 14 in the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Hall in Dallas with Saint-Saens’ Violin Concerto, Radu Pieptea’s musical talents have continued to garner critical acclaim and recognition. Das Orchester in Germany called his performance “brilliant” and “flawless” and described his interpretation as “daring and full of fiery temperament…with a strong sense of purpose.” Lauded by the Santa Barbara Independent, Pieptea is described as “astonishing,” and the Los Angeles Times commended him for his “firm tone” and “technical proficiency and musical resolve."
Mr. Pieptea has been featured on New York’s classical music radio station WQXR playing on the chamber music series of the Sarasota Music Festival where he also served as concertmaster of the orchestra. He has made solo orchestral appearances with the American Youth Symphony, the La Mirada Symphony, the Allen Philharmonic, the Max Bruch Philharmonic, and other various orchestras and ensembles. Other music festivals he has participated in include the Aspen Music Festival, the Killington Music Festival, and the Sienna Sessions for Music and Art. Mr. Pieptea has also performed several times in Carnegie Hall as a member of the New York String Orchestra.
As a soloist, Mr. Pieptea’s playing has been broadcast several times on radio, including on the Los Angeles County Museum of Art “Sundays Live” program previously broadcast on 105.1KMZT, on 88.5 KCSN, and on nationally televised solo and chamber music concerts in the Forbidden City Concert Hall in China as a guest artist of the Beijing Music Festival. He has performed solo at Los Angeles’ Dorothy Chandler Pavilion as a result of being a winner of the Los Angeles Music Center’s 1996 Spotlight Awards, and has given numerous recitals in cities across the United States and Europe.
A 2000 graduate of the Juilliard School of Music in New York, Mr. Pieptea won the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship for continuing his studies at the Cologne School of Music in Germany, where he received a second degree in music performance under the tutelage of renowned violin pedagogue Zakhar Bron. He then moved back to his hometown of Los Angeles in 2003, where he received his master’s degree from UCLA on a full scholarship while studying there with Mark Kaplan. While at UCLA, Mr. Pieptea collaborated regularly with faculty on their Chamber Music Series and served as concertmaster of the UCLA Orchestra.
As a freelancer in Los Angeles, Mr. Pieptea performs regularly with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and in the studios recording for motion pictures, television, and records. He is also an active teacher and has given masterclasses abroad. Born in Romania, Mr. Pieptea came to the United States with his family when he was two years old. He began his studies in music at the age of six and has since been influenced by the pedagogy of Mark Kaplan, Zakhar Bron, Masao Kawasaki, Robert Mann, Alexander Treger, and Ronald Neal.
