Alastair Fray
Alastair Fray is a scholarship graduate of The Eastman School of Music in New York, which was named the "Hottest School for Music" in the US by the Kaplan/Newsweek How to get into college guide for 2008. In the 1997 and 2004 surveys conducted by U.S. News & World Report, the Eastman School of Music was ranked first among graduate school music programs in the United States. His primary instruction came from the world renowned Bonita Boyd and Rick Brietstien. Further instruction came from Martha Aarons, flutist with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra and Anne Harrow, current assistant flute and piccolo teacher at the Eastman School of Music. After graduating with a Bachelor's of Music in flute performance he returned to Seattle, his native city, and currently enjoys a teaching and performing career. He can also be found teaching at summer music camps around the greater Seattle area.
My desire for all my students is that they become superior musicians and flute players. I consider it my job to maintain a balance in between pushing for my students to understand the discipline and skills needed to succeed at playing the flute and creating and nurturing a joy for expressing emotions and stories through music. My desire is that all ages would find me accessible as a teacher, as a person, and in accordance to their aspirations on the flute that everyone would have the opportunity to enjoy the arts and find the time they spend playing the flute rewarding and purposeful. As a result of growing up in this area, I have specific experience pertaining to winning our local solo competitions and placing first in the All-State Orchestra auditions. I am a three time winner of the King County Solo competition and have played as the principal chair of the All-State Orchestra several years. I have a love for people and music. My current interests involve the teaching I do and expanding my playing into improvisation and worship. I currently teach through the Kaleidoscope School of Music in downtown Issaquah, Maywood Middle School in the Renton Highlands, and Islander Middle School on Mercer Island.
