David Manley
David Manley’s musical experience has encompassed over 30 years of performance, pedagogy, accompaniment, & writing. He received his B.A. in Music at CSU Chico, earning credentials in piano performance and composition. His wide-ranging musical interests have included a variety of instrument studies (piano, harpsichord, violin, viola, guitar) & performing ensembles (classical orchestras, rock bands, jazz groups). He has served as accompanist and/or music director for numerous singers & companies, including the Mayflower Chorus (San Rafael) & Openstage Repertory Theater (San Francisco). Currently he is dedicated to piano instruction, performance, accompaniment & composition from his studio in San Francisco.c
Keyboard studies have included tutelage with Robert Bowman, CSU Chico (classical piano and harpsichord); David Roethe, CSU Chico (Baroque performance practice); Adam Domash, San Francisco (jazz piano); and most recently Eliane Lust’s Le Piano Studio (master class coaching).
Composition studies were begun at CSU Chico with Alfred Loeffler, and continued at SFSU San Francisco with Henry Onderdonk. Original compositions include piano pieces, song cycles, chamber works, and arrangements of classical works for small ensembles.
String studies (violin & viola) have included instruction with David Mallory, CSU Chico (violin); Ward Fenley, Sacramento State University (violin); & David Thorp (viola). Orchestral performances have included concerts with the Apollo Orchestra, the Apollo Baroque Orchestra, & the Chico Symphony.
Forays into popular music have included several years experience as songwriter & instrumentalist (guitar & violin) for The Wayward Bus (alternative rock band), solo recordings of original songs, & solo piano gigs at The Lone Palm (jazz & blues).
