Christopher Schindler grew up in Everett, Washington and performed with the Everett Symphony when he was 13 years old. He studied with Randolph Hokanson at the University of Washington, interrupted by three years as a Russian linguist in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. He later earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at University of Oregon. He has also studied with Neal O'Doan (U. of W.), Marlene Thal (U. of O.), and Bela Nagy, formerly of Boston University. More recently he coaches with Karl Ulrich Schnabel of New York City.
In the course of his career, Christopher Schindler has received many awards, including prizes in the New Dimensions in Music Competition for Contemporary Music (Seattle), the International Piano Recording Competition of Fort Worth, and the Villa-Lobos Piano Competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Schindler performs frequently in recitals on the West Coast and abroad. He appeared not long ago at the Rockefeller Foundation Conference Center's Villa Serbelloni Concert Series in Bellagio, Italy. He is regularly a piano soloist in concertos with the Everett Symphony Orchestra, The Seattle Philharmonic, the Vancouver Symphony, the Columbia Symphony, the Clackamas Chamber Orchestra, the Yaquina Chamber Orchestra, and the Marylhurst Symphony. He also collaborates occasionally in concerts with other instrumentalists and singers.
In March of this year Christopher released his first CD Christopher Schindler: Early Live Performances featuring music by Bach, Mozart, Schoenberg, and Schubert. It is distributed by North Pacific Music.
Dr. Schindler now resides in Portland and is on the adjunct music faculty of Marylhurst College. He teaches privately and is organist and pianist at the First Congregational Church in Vancouver.
